BHP and Lundin Mining complete their takeover of Filo
The two companies paid about C$4.0bn for the Filo shares they did not own and formed Vicuña, a 50:50 joint venture holding the Filo del Sol and Josemaria copper projects in Argentina and Chile. BHP also paid Lundin $690m for half of Josemaria.
Why it matters. A joint acquisition lets two buyers share the cost and risk of a district too large for one of them.
